Heroic Death of Dobozi Mihály (Michael Dobozi) and his Wife

Heroic Death of Dobozi Mihály (Michael Dobozi) and his Wife. - Dobozi Mihály, a Hungarian lesser noble, to gether with his fellow - warriors constructed an armed camp of wagons in the days when the Turkish hosts, victorious in the battle of Mohács, flooded the whole country. The Turkish force, vastly superior in numbers, dispersed the Hungarian camp; and Dobozi mounted his steed with his wife in his arms. How ever, the horse being unable to be at the double burden, the faithful wife begged and entreated her husband to kill her, lest she should fall into the hands of the Turks. Dobozi first stabbed his wife to death with his sword and then, facing his pursuers unaided, died the death of a hero. - Painting by Székely Bertalan (Bartholomew Székely), in the Budapest Fine Arts Museum. C. Könyves Kálmán, Budapest.
